WHEN SELLING NASI LEMAK MAKE MORE MONEY THAN NEWSPAPER COMPANIES

The Power Of Cartoons | Ortwin Oberhauser

I stopped my newspaper's subscriptions after 45 years. At home, nobody reads the paper anymore.

Nobody folded the paper under their arms on MRTs and LRTs like on trains and buses in the old days. Newspapers then could portray your so-called class and stature in the society.

Now everybody is saying the print media is dying and better believe it, it's not a misconception.

Nowadays, you can bring restaurant food to your home with the help of Food Panda.

Newspapers? Well you will have to make your way to the shops to get them, if they still sell them.

Less and less newspapers are being sold. The papers are getting thinner. Their shares are worthless. Nobody remembers or even cares who's the country's best journalist. We remember A.Samad Ismail and Subky Latif. Soon tokoh wartawan negara would be someone stranger to the society. The "suratkhabar lama" man has been missing from the neighbourhood for sometime now

Can the fortune be changed? The answer is NO. It has reached the point of no return.

It will come to a point when owners, especially new owners like Syed Mokhtar, begin to realise they will make more money selling nasi lemak than selling newspapers.

They will be forced to carve a tombstone for their papers sooner rather than later.
